Quick answer

When is the best time to plant date palms in the UAE?

October to April is the best time to plant date palms in the UAE, because cooler weather means less heat stress while the roots settle. Tall palms are lifted in by crane, planted in a pit with improved soil, staked and given a bubbler or drip ring, then checked in the first weeks.

Date palms supplied and planted the right way

Correct pit size, the right soil mix, safe crane lifting, staking and irrigation, so your date palm settles in fast.

Planting a date palm is more than digging a hole. The pit size, soil mix, planting depth and first weeks of watering decide whether the palm settles in or struggles. Al Qaswan Landscape offers professional date palm planting in UAE for palms you buy from us or already own.

Our team prepares a wide pit, mixes sweet sand with organic matter and slow-release fertiliser, and sets the root ball at the right depth. Large palms are lifted with a crane, placed straight, and held with strong stakes or guy wires until the roots take hold.

Every date palm installation in Dubai and the other Emirates ends with a bubbler or drip ring around the palm and a clear watering plan, so you know exactly what to do in the first months.

  • Pit dug to the right size for the root ball
  • Sweet sand, compost and slow-release fertiliser mix
  • Crane lifting for tall and heavy palms
  • Straight placement, staking or guy wires
  • Bubbler or drip ring installed
  • Watering plan and first check-up visit

Good to know: keep the base of the trunk dry and place bubblers or drippers away from it. A trunk base that stays wet weakens the roots and invites pests such as the red palm weevil. Gulf News on over-watering palms (opens in a new tab)

FAQ

Date palm planting: questions answered

How deep should a date palm be planted?

The palm should sit at the same depth it grew in the nursery, with the top of the root ball level with the ground. Planting too deep is a common reason palms struggle.

What is the best time for date palm planting in UAE?

October to April is the easiest season because the palm settles with less heat stress. Palms can be planted in summer too, with extra watering and shade care in the first weeks.

Do you plant palms that I bought somewhere else?

Yes. We plant palms from any supplier, as long as the root ball is healthy. We check the palm when we arrive and tell you if anything needs attention.

Do you need a crane to plant a date palm?

Small palms can be planted by hand. Palms with a trunk of about 2 metres or more are usually lifted with a crane or a truck with a boom, which is safer for the palm and your property.

How much water does a newly planted date palm need?

A new palm needs deep, regular watering for the first weeks, then a steady schedule once new fronds grow. We set the plan for your season and soil at handover.

Why is my newly planted palm turning yellow?

Some yellowing of older fronds is normal after planting. Spreading yellow or a drooping centre can mean too much or too little water, or a planting problem. Send us a photo and we will advise.

Do you cover community approvals for crane work?

Many communities ask for approval before a crane enters. We guide you on what your community usually needs and plan the work around it.

Do you supply the palms as well?

Yes. We source healthy date palms of the variety and height you want, check them before delivery and plant them in one job. You can also plant palms you already have.

Which areas do you cover?

We plant date palms in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain and Al Ain.
